Injured trainer Saab Hasan has a long road ahead as he deals with severe concussion after a nasty fall at trackwork last week.

The popular horseman was hospitalized after his irons broke while riding work, but he has since been discharged to continue his recovery at home.

“Concussion can be disorientating and painful, I’m with my family so I’m lucky, my partner Zoe’s doing a wonderful job,” Hasan said.

“I’m at home, the staff are doing a great job with the horses. I’ve made a tremendous amount of improvement, which is why they released me from hospital, all that fight was to get home with my partner and kids.

“It was very hard for them to drive from the farm to see me on a daily basis, my kids wanted to see me every day.”

Hasan says the ongoing symptoms have forced him to take a back seat in running his business, with no clear timeline set on his recovery owing to the uncertainties with concussion.

“I can’t do much, I’m going to go have a meeting with the staff this morning and about half an hour is as much as I can handle,” he said.

“I’ve got to write things down because I’ve been forgetting things. It has sat me on my backside, I’ve never been one to be laid out, but with concussion it’s just really, really knocked me.

“Whether it’s six days, two months, or two years, I just don’t know. I’m still concussed, my head’s sore, hopefully there’s not going to be a long-term effect.

The one thing I’m sure of is I haven’t forgot how to train!”
